Significant hail damage occurred in De Soto, KS in May 2016, damaging roofs in the area between K-10 and the Kansas River, in the neighborhoods near Lexington Avenue and Commerce Drive. In the picture above and the two at the bottom, you can clearly see the significant hail strike damage that will eventually cause major problems if the roof is not replaced. These are pictures taken of a home in De Soto this week. Please note that it can be hard to see this type of damage from the ground, so please be safe and call the Roofing Man to take a closer look at your roof.
Why is hail damage such a problem?
Many people assume that the damage caused by hail is merely cosmetic, and isn’t cause for concern. This is not true. When hail hits your roof, the protective granules are knocked off where the hail strikes. Over time, the damage will accelerate and eventually cause problems.
If you suspect hail damage but can’t see it, or assume that it is just minor, definitely call The Roofing Man for a free inspection of your roof. It is important to identify damage before it becomes a problem and to file a claim with your insurance company to make sure that you are properly covered. While your roof will not leak immediately after hail damage, over a few years the damage will get bad enough that leaking can occur.

While we haven’t had too much snow yet this winter in the Kansas City area, snow is always a possibility in January and February. A common concern we hear about in this area is snow infiltration, which occurs in static vents and ridge vents.
Even when the installation of ventilation in your roof is done correctly, mother nature can create swirling wind conditions to push snow into the exhaust vents.Read More
Call the Roofing Man today at (913) 381-2940 for a quote to remove ice dams from your roof.
Ice Dams are formed when in winter conditions, heated air from the home migrates into the unheated attic through the ceiling, under insulated areas and through bypasses, such as light fixtures or exhaust systems found in kitchens and bathrooms. This creates warm areas on the roof and unevenly melts the underside of the snow that has accumulated on the roof. The melted snow flows down the roof until it reaches a colder spot, such as the eaves, where it refreezes, forming a back up of ice commonly called an ice dam.Read More
